DONATION HELPS GWINNETT COUNTY OFFER MEALS ON WHEELS

(Lawrenceville, GA – Aug. 2, 2011) – Commissioners today accepted a donation to supplement the County’s senior citizens meals program. The nonprofit organization Friends of Gwinnett Senior Services (Friends) donated $65,625 to help Gwinnett County provide home-delivered meals to senior citizens currently on a waiting list.

“Many seniors want to stay in their own homes as long as possible,” said Friends President Brad Culp. “An inability to shop for and prepare their own meals could force a senior to move. We’re committed to supporting Gwinnett seniors by giving a significant portion of our annual budget to provide these much-needed meals and to reduce the waiting list for these services.”

The funds will cover the liquid nutritional drinks program, help offset increased fuel and food prices for current operations and lower the average monthly waiting list by about 30 percent to less than 100 people, down from 200 several years ago.
