Time Management - How to Begin

Aug 10, 2012

How do you manage your time today?  Do you have an approach?  Even no approach is “an approach”!  There are probably elements of time management that you already practice, and it is likely that there are things you do well.  How do you know, though?  Better time management is only relevant or even possible in the context of articulated goals or objectives.  What do you want?

Remember the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland?  When asked by Alice, “

Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”, he responded, “That depends a good deal on where you want to get to”  Alice replies, “I don’t much care where”.  To which the cat quips, “Then it doesn't matter which way you go…”

Before you start “better managing your time”, first sit down and think through what you want to accomplish.  Do you want a 4 hour break once a week to get out of the house?  Or, do you want 30 minutes a day of down time?  Perhaps you want to take a short vacation…  Spend a few minutes to clearly articulate what it is you need, and you will be ready to move on to the next step.

Next time, we’ll examine how you currently spend your time.  Stay with us!
